Chiarugi oboe staples are in high demand worldwide and the Chiarugi 2 staple is easily the best selling staple in the world.

Which oboes does this staple fit?

Chiarugi's success is due to the fact that this staple works well with pretty much any oboe. The question: which staple works best with my oboe? is not easy to answer with 100% accuracy. Embouchure, physiological attributes, playing style, shaper and instrument are just a few of the factors that influence the choice of staple. Only by trying different staples can we be sure of finding the correct one. A couple of fundamental points:

Staple alternatives

For players who are not too flat in the higher register (top a - top c), for example players on a Marigaux 901, a Chiarugi 2+ is worth trying. For players who are still flat in the top octave with a Chiarugi No.2, trying an Eterion staple or D10 is recommended.

Material thickness

All staples except Eterion, Apollon, Marigaux 1 Super Leggera and Marigaux 2 are thick walled. The above listed thin walled staples have a reduced thickness for an easy and vibrant playing style.

Variants

Throughout the years Chiarugi has developed a whole host of staples with the same bore as the Type 2 staple:

At our suggestion, this leading staple is now available as Chiarugi 2 Oboe-Shop which is made using thinner brass tubing. This concept was developed through our customers positive experiences with other thinner walled staples such as Eterion, Apollon, Marigaux 1 SL and Marigaux 2. Reeds made on these new oboe shop staples vibrate with ease and without becoming too shouty - as can sometimes be the case with nickel staples.
