In recent years, Chiarugi has extended its bestseller
Chiarugi 2 to include several new variants, including the so-called
cork-less staples.
With these staples, the cork is replaced by silicon rings and the space in between is filled with varying amounts of solid metal.
The 2E is the staple that certainly takes this principle furthest:
While the
Chiarugi 2S staple sees the space usually filled with cork basically completely
replaced with brass and the
Chiarugi 2M staple does this to a slightly lesser extent, the Chiarugi 2E staple has the least material where the
cork would usually be on a conventional staple.
This makes the staple play very flexibly and freely; but possibly also a bit too freely. If this is the case,
it is advisable to try the Chiarugi 2S or the Chiarugi 2M staple instead.
The same principle as the Chiarugi 2E staple is also implemented in the
Chudnow E staple, which is basically the same,
except that the latter's bore is the same as the
Chiarugi 2+ staple.
Since the 2E's bore is the same as that of the Chiarugi 2 staple's, the
mandrel for Chiarugi 2 staples can also be used here.
The great advantage of cork-less staples is that there is no cork left that can wear down over time. Only the
silicon rings need to be replaced from time to time.
