Neck straps
Many oboists are familiar with the problem: continuous strain on the right shoulder and thumb can, over time, lead to pain, tension and even technical limitations in playing. To counter this, there is now a wide range of ergonomic support devices available.
The range extends from simple neck straps – such as the model by Marigaux – and endpin or support systems like those from Reeds ’n Stuff, through to more advanced off-loading solutions such as the ERG-Oboe or the Malzer-Support.
All of these systems share one key idea: the ideal solution is as individual as each player’s posture and physical condition. It is therefore worth trying different options and choosing the aid that best matches your own needs.
