Compared to the interchangeable shapers for

this shaper from Chiarugi has the advantage that the cane does not have to be folded before being shaped. This eliminates one of the main sources of error, as the cane is often neither folded in half precisely, nor accurately centred on the shaper tip before being shaped. These errors result in uneven side thicknesses.

However, this system also has a disadvantage: those of you who frequently change shapers will save money by using the interchangeable shaper tips.

Watch out! This shaper has an overall length of 75mm, while most standard oboe cane, like ours, measures 76mm!
