Profiler for Oboe, Kunibert Michel

Kunibert Michel designed and produced his oboe reed profiler in the early 70's. His aim was to provide the leading oboists of that era, players such as Heinz Holliger, Günther Passin, Lothar Koch, Maurice Bourgue and Hans-Jörg Schellenberger with a profiling machine that met all of the necessary requirements for quality and durability.

The very fine guide ball that he uses ensures a very precise and balanced transfer of the template onto the reed. The machine's blade is very easy to change and can be resharpened by Kunibert Michel to help reduce costs and improve accuracy. The blade has an integrated clamp that prevents the reed from lifting which further increases the quality of the scrape.

We would also like to highlight to our American reed makers that this machine can be used for long scrape reeds. A blank reed can be profiled to a maximum of 28mm on this machine. The Kunibert Michel machine also has the possibility that no other profiler has, which is to also profile the so called "windows".
