Whilst flat plaques can be inserted very easily into the oboe reed, we see the danger that the reed could crack if too much pressure is applied over the top of the reed (especially where the reed narrows and becomes more curved towards the staple).

Therefore we recommend the curved plaques, which are a little more complex to produce and resultingly more expensive.
