Tensile strength

Our multicoloured thread is only made in strength "30" and is therefore slightly thinner than the single-coloured standard thread. An advantage is that you can tie-on your reeds even closer and neater, while a slight disadvantage is that this thread is not quite as strong and resistant. Those who want to exert a lot of force on the thread whilst tying-on should therefore resort to using thread with standard thickness.

Some technical background

Our multicoloured thread is a so-called corespun thread. Here the single threads consist of a core made of multifilaments surrounded by a sheath of fine fibres. Corespun thread has a smooth and textile surface.

For oboists, this combination of a multifilament core and spun exterior means that the thread 19s core is very strong and resistant and tearing is virtually impossible. The exterior surface is silky-smooth and enables optimal results when tying-on.
