The exact date of Medir's founding is not know. However, ist must be around 1915 when cane, which at the time was grown exclusively for the production of baskets, was in high demand in England.

Since then, Medir, now in its fourth generation, has been growing cane for double-reed instruments near Barcelona.

Medir's cane is particularly popular amongst American oboists, is medium-hard to hard and has a distinct grain.
