The Authors

Marianne Richert Pfau, Ph. D., is Professor of Musicology at the University of San Diego in California, USA. There she teaches music history and literature courses, produces international Early Music Festivals, and directs the Angelus Sacred Early Music Concert Series at USD. She also has an active performance career as baroque oboist in the US and in Europe.

M. Richert Pfau holds diplomas from the Musikhochschule Hamburg and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama London, and then earned her Ph.D. in historical musicology at SUNY-Stony Brook in New York. She has published a complete edition of Hildegard von Bingen's Symphonia chants, and her monograph, with Stefan Morent, entitled Hildegard von Bingen: Der Klang des Himmels (Bhlau Verlag, 2005), has garnered enthusiastic reviews on both sides of the Atlantic. More recently, she has begun publishing 18th-century music for baroque oboe hidden in European archives (www.primalamusica.com).

In the US, M. Richert Pfaus performance affiliations are with American Bach Soloists, Jubilate Baroque Orchestra and California Bach Society in San Francisco, Musica Angelica and Corona del Mar Baroque Festival in Los Angeles, Trinity Consort in Oregon, and Ensemble Rebel in New York. In Europe she has appeared with Musica Alta Ripa, LArco, Corona Musica Kassel, Cythara Ensemble Hamburg, and Accademia dellArcadia Poznan. She directs her own ensemble, toutes suites, reviving forgotten Baroque music and transforming it from (dusty archival) page to (the modern) stage.

Bjrn Lindemann, Ph.D., is a molecular biologist and amateur oboe player. In addition to playing the modern oboe he became interested in the performance of baroque music on historical instruments and he also began to play the baroque oboe as a student. Bjrn Lindemann played in numerous amateur orchestras and ensembles during his academic education in biology and physics at the University of Gttingen and during his subsequent career in the biotechnology industry. He owns a collection of excellent copies of baroque oboes, oboes damore, tailles and oboes da caccia by Steenbergen, Klenig, Schlegel, Eichentopf, Denner and Stanesby.
